Our History:

The SMG group proudly welcomed its flagship BMW dealership, SMG Cape Town, to Cape Town in 2009. The dealership is conveniently situated in the Century City development, at the main entrance to the Canal Walk shopping centre. This is one of the largest and most spectacular shopping centre experiences in the Southern Hemisphere, with volumes of parking, a delectable array of resturants and coffee shops, a movie complex, amusements park and a state of the art gymnasium, all in easy reach for a customer when servicing or visiting SMG Cape Town.
Under the deft leadership of Group Managing Director, Sean McCarthy, and his trained and professional management team, it is expected that SMG Cape Town will fast become the leaders in the ultimate service experience expected from a BMW Dealership in the Cape area, and SMG Cape Town will follow in the SMG trend, as achievers with numerous awards and accolades bestowed on the group to date including the much coveted, “BMW Dealer Of The Year 2008, for SMG Pietermaritzburg.

Sean McCarthy brings a wealth of BMW experience to the SMG Group, with more than 20 years with in the group, which includes his period as Director of McCarthy Motor Group. Sean is at the helm of an impressive SMG management team, which includes the entrepreneur and former Springbok rugby player, Lance Sherrell as a director and partner. Shareholder Tokyo Sexwale, also enjoys a close association with the SMG Group, with him he brings a wide network of corporate, public and social contacts. SMG Durban Dealer Principle, Trevor Meyer, adds 19 years motor trade experience to the team.

The day to day running of the business at SMG Cape Town is in the very capable hands of Dealer Principle, Mark Ross, who with his Customer Service Manager Clifford James, with 15 years BMW experience, will steer SMG Cape Town to new customer service heights.
Mark Ross and his team are determined to provide their customers with passionate, professional and dedicated service.
